German Childhood Cancer Foundation:
Tax consultants support “Waldpiraten”
Charity Golf Cup in aid of children with cancer organized by WTS World Tax ServiceSteinhöring / Munich, July 12, 2010 –Last weekend, WTS World Tax Service hosted a Charity Golf Cup in support of children suffering from cancer. Tax experts from all over Upper Bavaria came together for a round of golf and on this occasion donated 7,500 Euros. The respectable amount will go to the German Childhood Cancer Foundation, in support of the project “Waldpiraten-Camp” (Forest Pirates’ Camp). The project allows young cancer patients to get away from the grim reality of their hospital stays and help them return to normal life.
It was the first time that the WTS Group hosted the Charity Golf Cup at Thailing Manor in Steinhöring close to Ebersberg. With annual revenues of 45 million Euros, WTS is among Germany’s leading tax consulting firms. With the new Charity Golf Cup, WTS aims to provide support, not only in financial terms. “We also wanted to raise awareness among business people of the importance of giving back to society and accepting social responsibility,” explained Fritz Esterer, CEO of WTS AG Steuerberatungsgesellschaft.
“Waldpiraten” are young cancer patients. Thanks to today’s state-of-the-art medical treatments, many can defeat the disease. However, the arduous cancer treatment process causes physical and psychological damages. To help children enjoy life again, the German Childhood Cancer Foundation has set up the project “Waldpiraten-Camp”. It is based on the concept of experiential education: In groups, children learn to accept challenges, master them together and learn from their success. On the list of adventures are nightly walks, high ropes courses, music, theater plays and campfires that help the children regain their strength in a playful manner.
Besides charity activities, the promotion of cultural events is a top priority on the agenda of the WTS tax consultants. The exhibition series “Kunst am Isartor” comprises four shows per year which cover a variety of techniques ranging from photography to painting and sculpture. Its primary aim is to offer young artists from the Greater Munich area a platform where they can show their work in a venue open to the Munich public.
Background information on the German Childhood Cancer Foundation
In Germany, about 2,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer annually, 400 of them with brain tumors. The German Childhood Cancer Foundation was set up by the umbrella organization of the “German Leukemia Research Aid – Initiative for Children with Cancer” in 1995 and is primarily funded by donations. It supports children suffering from cancer and their families and champions the improvement of chances of a cure, treatment methods and quality of life of young cancer patients. “Waldpiraten-Camp” is a unique facility in Germany that allows these children to recharge their batteries and helps them face everyday life again after defeating the disease.
